how do you feel about blogs?

I'd like to know how you feel about blogs and blogging in general.

Are they vain?
...helpful?
   ...cathartic?
...useless?

What are some of your favorite blog sites?

Do you have a blog?  If not, would you ever start one?

  1. I like them. Well .. I like ones that are relevant, and since I know you, yours is! They can be cathartic .. at times. They can also be narcissistic and boring. So don't get all weird on us!! jk I like the layout

  2. They are a great medium for socializing, general communication, and collaborating. As an author of a blog, I suspect there would be some pressure as your audience expands and expectations solidify. Try not to get lost in the blogosphere... and don't forget the traditional social networking and communication methods. Let me paraphrase: Make sure you visit your bro and niece! (especially your niece as she can't type yet... ).

  3. www.WikiHow.com - search for how to make a blog... obviously you have succeeded in that but the latter half of the article lets you know effective methods of blogging... its almost a science :)

  4. haha jeff... so true. i have read many a boring blog.. but also some very entertaining ones..
your site is part of the inspiration for this. it's so sleek and stylish and "adult" like most things Jeff.. if you don't mind people knowing, post your url in a comment so my friends can visit...

carlo.. don't worry, i wil do my best not to become a social retard. plus i kinda love that ella can't type yet. she is shielded from much corruption that way.. i'm pretty convinced the internet is primarily responsible for robbing children of their innocence..

i see what you mean about increased expectations.. Roger just told me not to blog every half hour.. haha.. but also :( i'm excited about it now.. thanks for the input!

raj..thanks for the tip. i'm going to check out wiki how, even though my rogue side says "do it my way" lol... it'll at least be nice to know what i rebel against.. haha... 1/2 kidding

  5. Blogging is interesting. You were right in your comment when you said that there's a lot of boring blogs out there. But then again there are a lot of boring people out there too so it stands to reason that blogs would follow suit.

I think, at it's base, blogging appeals to the exhibitionist in people. That is, after all, why all blogs come defaulted with a comment functionality. It follows to logic that if you have the ability to comment you expect readers, and not only do you expect readers but you also expect readers who will then post their thoughts in regard to your thoughts. It's really very ego driven at the end of the day if you think about it. There isn't necessarily anything wrong with this, it's just the way that I see things.

As you know I have two, my LiveJournal and my Blogger account and each of them serve a purpose. The LJ account I have for the community. I have a lot of great friends and have met a lot of great people through it. The Blogger account started specifically with the intent of accountability for my weight loss and has grown, recently into something more.

Blogging, at its heart, appeals to me. Not only because of the ability it gives me to air my thoughts but also because it gives me a record of my progression through the years. It's amazing the cycles that I find myself in that I wouldn't recognize as cycles if I weren't able to read back through things that I'd previously felt important enough to write about. That's not mentioning the point that you made in your first post - there is a social aspect to blogging that you can't readily ignore.

  11. i think blogs are good way to talk to a lot of people all at once. i'm bad at communicating in general. i don't call much and if you're not in my immediate area, i don't visit much either.

i made a blog about our house building process. started out well, but came to a halt as it got closer to moving in. i will update tho cuz i do go more pictures and junk.

    http://quietstreamdrive.blogspot.com is the blog btw.

  14. naturally like your website but you need to check the spelling on quite a few of
your posts. Many of them are rife with spelling issues and I
to find it very bothersome to inform the truth then again
I will surely come back again.
